Random Topic Tuesday + Fernweh

{Fernweh is what the Germans call that longing for faraway places, the poetic certainty that things are better elsewhere; there is a superlative degree of geographic desire}

Hamburg, Germany

Keukenhof Gardens, Keukenhof, Holland

Keukenhof Gardens, Keukenhof, Holland

Fern Forest, Jamaica

Waitomo Glowworm Grotto in New Zealand

Mystical Forest, Madeira Island, Portugal

Ice Hotel, Quebec

St. Basil Cathedral, St. Petersburg, Russia
Does this remind anyone else of Candy Land?

Cave of Melody, Scotland

I love travelling. I have a very long list of places that I want to visit and explore, but these are the newest additions. I want to see pretty much everything. I love learning about different cultures and experiencing history. I'm taking an Art History class involving Prehistoric through Gothic Art. I've fallen in love with the Lascaux Caves in Southwestern France, and Stonehenge in Salisbury Plains, England. I actually get excited to wake up every Tuesday and Thursday to learn more about Paleolithic pieces. I never thought that I would be interested in cave paintings, but the more I learn about them, the more I like them.

Has anyone visited any of these places? If not, is there any one of these that you'd like to?

  1. Oh my, these pictures are so exquisite! I love your passion for traveling; it's rather infectious. :D Sad to say the ONLY place I've been outside of the states, is Cambodia. It was gorgeous! I'd love to travel more someday.

I do have a good friend who lives in Hamburg, Germany. She blogs at www.apicturebooklife.blogspot.com She'd probably know all the great places to go.

    P.S. I'm your newest follower! :D

  3. OH MY! These places you posted are all so beautiful. I haven't seen/heard of half of them. There is so much more traveling I need to do.

I loved taking art history and learning about the paleolithic era....and every era after that, haha. I wish the Lascaux caves were still open to the public *sighhhh. Stumbling inside of them for the first time must have been so wonderful.

    1. I was amazed when I heard they were discovered by accident! It would be cool to be the person that just fell into the cave and found all of those cave paintings. I can't wait to learn about every era after that too :)

  4. Ooooh Russia! I want to visit there so badly, preferably in the winter around Christmas. It looks so beautiful there, and I've been obsessed with the story of Anastasia ever since I was little.

  5. Feeling like I'm just the opposite of Fernweh....with poetic certainty that there is beauty all around me....but that's just me....;-) Awesome pictures, and I will happily delight in more of the same, maybe I'm empathic into pictures, 'cause I feel like I've already visited just through the sheer quality of the photographs....and no jet lag...haha! Still lovin' your blog, and you!

    1. That's great that you feel that way! I love your love of where you live. I just feel this undying need to visit other places. I think once I've seen enough of the world, then I will know where I'm supposed to be. I love you too!

    1. Sometimes I forget about the Grand Canyon because I've gone so many times. It's not too far from where I live (just a few hours). Every time a relative or friend comes to town my family and I always take them. It's beautiful! I haven't heard of Salvation Mountain, but I'm just about to look that up :)
