I found this fun DIY project on {The Harpster Home}. The map is of Arizona, and the heart represents Scottsdale {where Jason and I met}.
What you need:
♥ A wood board. They suggested 12" x 12", but since our state is a little longer, we opted for the 11" x 14". We also made sure to get one with a beveled edge. {Michael's}
♥ Paint for the board. We chose white, because it's going on a grey wall.
♥ Painter's tape. It's to tape the map down in place to prevent moving.
♥ String. {Joann's}
♥ Small brass nails. {Home Depot}
♥ Hammer. {Don't worry, it doesn't have to be Thor status}
♥ A map of the state that you were born/live/met the one you love. We just printed out a map from the internet, nothin' fancy.
What to do:
♥ Attach a metal backing to hang the board before you do anything else. I found this product at {Michael's} near the framing department.
♥ Paint the board any color you desire.
♥ Cut out a map of the state you chose, and be sure to cut out the shape of a heart in the city that means most to you.
♥ Using painter's tape, adhere the map in the center of the board.
♥ Hammer nails beside the map, and make sure the spacing around the heart is a little more close together than the outline of the state.
♥ Wrap the string around, and voilĂ !
I hope you liked this :) If anyone gives this a go, let me know {that rhymes}. Happy Tuesday!
That is such a cute idea! My state will be NY!

I first saw this on Pinterest, and I knew that I had to try it!
DeleteThat is so cute! I wonder if I could do minis for everywhere I've lived...which is only two places in one state and one place in one state, but you know... :>
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen that before, but I'm sure it can be done! I think that would turn out great, and it would be very unique :) Maybe you could use two different colors of string to depict each place. Just an idea ;)
DeleteOh, this is adorable! Just found your blog and I love this DIY idea. If I ever have the time someday, I will definitely have to make one for Portland, OR!
ReplyDeleteI've been to Portland once when I was young, and I loved it! I dream of the weather, probably because it's completely opposite of Arizona :)
DeleteHaha, that's so funny! I was in Scottsdale a few years ago for a weeklong training, and I thought the same thing about the weather there! It's June and still raining most days here... =)
DeleteGrass is always greener, right? Hehe.
I long for rain... I guess you're right, but the grass is actually greener on your side ;) It's really brown out here. We are planning to move after my husband graduates college in December. Portland was one of the places we were thinking about.
Deleteawww this is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAwesome DIY idea ;)

Thank you :) It's nifty.
DeleteI.have.to.do.this. Uhhhhmazing! Officially top of my craft to do list!! Hopefully Florida will turn out as well as Arizona !!
ReplyDeleteThanks lady :D Florida would be a litter harder, because it's boomerang shaped ;) But it will be SO worth it! Let me know when you do it 'cause I would love to see it.
DeleteHave you used thread with this vs string? or is string really the way to go?
