Nordic

This weekend I was feeling a little under the weather so we stayed in on Saturday and watched an amazing documentary on the landscapes and culture of Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Sweden. If you are interested, you can watch Cool Nordic here. Sunday we took a rainy drive down to New Orleans and hopped around the French Quarter.

Also, I'm absolutely loving the new show Welcome to Sweden. It's our new favorite.

Réalisation

This has truly been one of my favorite months this year. This month I learned my first full song on the ukulele - "Little Talks" by Of Monsters & Men, I started my own little online business both on ebay and søciety6, taught myself how to put a pretty leaf in my coffee every morning, traveled to Atlanta and Houston, and finally baked the harvest loaf. This weekend we are going to Baton Rouge on Saturday, and New Orleans on Sunday. I see polaroids, coffee, bicycles, and City Park in our future.

Harvest Loaf

Ingredients:

3 eggs
2 cups sugar
1 cup olive oil
3 cups bob's red mill gluten-free all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp sea salt
3/4 cup buttermilk
2 tsp vanilla
1 cup of grated zucchini
1/2 cup of grated carrots

First, mix the eggs, sugar, and olive oil until light and fluffy. Then in a separate bowl mix all of the dry ingredients, and then fold them in. Whisk the buttermilk and vanilla together and then slowly add to the mixture. Add the grated zucchini and carrots. Fill the loaf pan 3/4 of the way full, and then top with a layer of raw sugar. Bake for 60 minutes at 350 degrees. Let cool and serve in 1 inch slices.

There is something really special about this recipe. When Jason and I moved to Louisiana, we were not only leaving our friends and family, but also our favorite coffee shop Lola. On the weekends we would always get our favorite harvest loaf for breakfast. On our last brunch date, Jason talked to the chef and he gave us the recipe to take with us. It turned out great, and I wanted to share my little adventures in baking my most treasured recipe.

Cinnamon

"We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield."

Ulysses by Alfred, Lord Tennyson

Today I had Skyfall on while I waited for the pest control guy. One of my favorite parts is when M recites the last few lines of Ulysses. Jason and I are planning a trip to London next year, so I have been in a James Bond phase.

Little things like cinnamon in my coffee, a notebook to doodle and write in, and a new marble wallpaper for my phone is what makes the now so special. Today is wonderful, and I am soaking up every beautiful minute of it.

Houston

This weekend Jason, Joker, and I went on a little road trip back to Houston, Texas. We went to a few favorite coffee shops (Blacksmith and Southside Espresso), bought a few new records, and went to the Cullen Sculpture Garden. We listened to Of Monsters and Men's Live from Vatnagarðar. It is hands down my favorite album of all time.

Did you get out of town this weekend?
