Chevron Curtains + First Sewing Project

Last Saturday Jason + I went over to my parent's house in hopes my mom could teach us how to use a sewing machine. What I thought was going to be a 2-3 hour project turned into a 6 hour endeavor that kept us at it until 1:30 in the morning. My mom was such a trooper! She not only taught us how to use the sewing machine but helped us make these beautiful curtains. I'm so proud of our first sewing project. I learned that sewing a seam in a straight line is a lot more difficult than I thought. I settled on  the idea that all the little bumps add character. I can't wait to make something else, because practice makes perfect. I found the fabric really cheap here. We also managed to score these rods at Ross for $11.99.

♥ What was your first sewing project?

Random Topic Tuesday + Colon Capital D

I love this tetris pixel heart print.

To all of you fellow ladies who love Star Wars, you rock.

I definitely want to make this and put it in our garden.

I want to dress like this everyday.

This would be so romantic.

This is so cute!

If I had a pen pal I would address them like this.

Autumn really is the best season.

This is such a cute Christmas photo idea. I think Jason and I will give this a go!

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is the snazziest dresser.

♥ What is making you smile today?

~ING + Amy's Tiara

Weeping Willow, Giverny by Claude Monet in 1922.

{Believing} I've never been a good student. I've always had kind of a chaotic life. In order to cope with such chaos I surrounded myself with friends, and didn't bother too much with studying and homework. I went to a community college right after high school and gathered some A's in my art classes, but everything else was put on the back burner. I decided to stop going there to obtain a license to practice massage therapy, but soon after I graduated I realized that it wasn't the right choice for me. I have a love of learning, and not until I realized that did I have a desire to finish what I started previously at Scottsdale Community College. Currently I have straight A's, studied for every test, and turned in every homework. Maybe some people are late bloomers, but for the first time in my life I actually believe in myself and know that I am capable of anything.

{Making} The fabric I ordered to make our curtains arrived earlier this week, so last night we got to work on it. I am so lucky that my mom has a history of knowing her way around a sewing machine. She used to make halloween costumes for my brother, sister, and I. Anyway, we went over to my parent's house last night and she taught me {and Jason} how to use the sewing machine. I was really excited because I had never used one before. I realize now how hard it is to sew a seam in a straight line. I figure all the shakiness adds character *wink*. Six hours later, at 1:30 am we finished the curtains and now we just need to put the rods up!

{Doing} I notice that when I go to Starbucks to do homework, study, or take an online quiz that I focus a lot better than I do at home. Jason and I have been going often, in fact we are sitting at our favorite Starbucks on our laptops right now :)

{Thinking} October is almost here and I can't stop thinking about where we are going to move! I'm also a little worried about going to school somewhere else. I'm not concerned if it is the United States, but if it's another country I wonder how hard it would be to get accustomed to a new learning environment. I suppose there is always the option of taking online classes.

{Wanting} I've been wanting to try a product from Weleda. It's a natural skin care line. It's a little pricey, but there are always deals out there if you look hard enough.

{Laughing} As I watched the clip again I bursted out laughing! I love the scene in Season 5 of The Big Bang Theory when Sheldon gives Amy a tiara. This is my favorite thing ever.

{Absorbing} I am absorbing every bit of information I can from all my classes. Wow, I'm such a nerd.

{Gazing} Every time I gaze up at my globe I think about all the adventures I want to take with Jason. He is the best person in the world to travel with. He likes to see new places, doesn't mind visiting museums or looking at old architecture, and likes to play games. We are soul-mates.

{Daring} I dare myself to make time for my blog even though I've been super busy! It's been over a week since my last entry and I really miss it. In addition I also dare myself to keep up with doing something creative every weekend. If I go too long without making something I don't feel like myself.

{Influencing} I went to a lecture given by the Phoenix Art Museum's curator. It made my love for art deeper, even though I couldn't believe that was possible. Art is so influential, and I need to make time for my painting again. It's been a long time, and that is another thing that feels "off" about where I am today. I want to make sure to read up on when there are other lectures, because it was wonderful to hear her perspective on art throughout the years and from around the world.

♥ What do you do to make time for the things you love when you are really busy? I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Currently + Shamy

{Loving} I love the weekends because Jason and I have been starting a new tradition of going to brunch. If we don't have any specific plans for after we usually go and get coffee and play cards. We took a break from doing that for a couple weeks, but now we are back to it.

{Reading} I'm reading over my Psychology notes (I know... how exciting). I have my first test coming up next week, so I'm trying to live + breathe all this information. Tomorrow I am thinking about reading something a little more fun.

{Watching} We have been watching a lot of The Big Bang Theory. This is definitely my favorite show ever! This show isn't new to me, but we are watching it again and I'm thinking season four and five are my favorite because I love Sheldon + Amy together {aka Shamy}. We are going to try to be a part of the audience in the next season. It would be amazing to see everything in person.

{Thinking about} Jason graduates from Arizona State University for Mechanical Engineering in December. He is going to start applying for jobs next month. He is focusing on finding jobs in England, preferably London. I've been thinking about what it will be like to move to another country. I am nervous to go to school in another country. I know it won't be that different because it will be the same language, but I guess I just don't know what to expect. No matter what it will be an amazing experience, and I can't wait for what will be the biggest adventure of our lives.

{Anticipating} I can't wait to watch the Presidential debates. The first one is on October 3rd. I love hearing President Obama's speeches.

{Listening to} Lately I've been listening to more NPR. It's a nice way to stay knowledgable about what's going on in the world, especially when I don't have much extra time.

{Wishing} I hope that we are able to go to Flagstaff this weekend for a hike. We haven't been hiking in such a long time! It might be time to wear a hoodie up there, which would make it a double whammy.

{Making me happy} I'm addicted to Home Goods. They have everything there! It makes me so happy every time. I can't wait to finish some of the craft projects I started last weekend.

Thank you to Danielle at Sometimes Sweet for the idea for this post. What are you currently into? ♥

Phoenix Art Museum + Date Night

Last weekend Jason and I had our date night at the Phoenix Art Museum. It was a lot of fun! I hadn't been in a while, so I was happy to see a whole new group of artwork. Do you have a favorite museum? ♥

Senses Saturday + Super Mario Bros.

{Sight} We were walking around Fry's Electronics and came across Super Mario Bros. for the Wii. We both played around with it, and it's official that we have to own this game!

(Scent} I've been wearing So Pink perfume from the Gap. It has hints of grapefruit, and even though I hate how it tastes it's one of my favorite scents.

{Sound} I've had Fall of '82 by The Shins on repeat for a while. How simple the instrumentals are reminds me of The Beatles. That is probably the best compliment I could ever give them.

{Taste} We've been having pita pizzas for lunch nowadays. All it takes is a whole wheat pita, some organic eggplant marinara sauce, and some skim milk mozzarella and voilĂ !

{Touch} Hobby Lobby is like my mothership. I had my hands on everything from a catapult kit, kites, compasses, pillows, spray paint, and everything in between. Pretty much everything was 50% off! We ended up getting this Keep Calm & Carry On pillow, which we love because it reminds us of our honeymoon in London.

Do you have a favorite {sense} this week? Let me know in the comments ♥

Caboodle Madness + Organization

I love organization, and to keep things simple. I'm not one of those people that really experiments with new makeup, or has an excessive of it. I use the most natural stuff I can find and never put anything on my body or face that contains parabens, harsh chemicals, or crazy preservatives.

And yes, I still use a caboodle at the age of 24, and I think that's pretty awesome :)

Window Shopping + World Market

I saw this card and it reminded me of our dog, Joker.

I used to play with jacks when I was little.

Ouija!

I need a compost pale. I could put the broken down material in our garden.

This flower scrubber would make doing dishes a little more sunny!

We went window shopping at World Market last weekend. They always have such unique, fun items there. All the photos are from World Market except the first one, which was at Target. Do you like to window shop? If so, where? ♥

Bunting Banner + Crafty Paper Fun

My Labor Day was full of hanging out by the pool and going to a family bbq. My night was full of crafty paper fun! {...and The Big Bang Theory}

To make the bunting banner: I cut out five isosceles triangles and punched holes to string ribbon through separating them 1" apart.

To make the deer silhouette: Trace the figure over a photo from the internet using a straight edge razor, and then tape the silhouette on a patterned background. {I used chevron}

I was like a little kid in a candy store at Michael's. Jason had to talk me out of doing a thousand projects at once. I always get ahead of myself whenever I'm in an arts and crafts store. I hope that everyone had a nice day off ♥

Blog Inspiration + Curiosity Shoppe

Alright, so I'm a little obsessed with everything in the new Curiosity Shoppe, which is Target's new collection coming out on September 9. I can't wait to get my hands on those wooden arrow server spoons!

Miss Indie blog gave me this inspiration. Every Friday she has a post called "Friday's Favorites". Do yourself a favor and check it out, because everything she comes up with is amazing!

Here are some of my new favorite reads: 12, and 3.

Senses Saturday + Love Love Love

This is the real room they used to model Arnold's bedroom.

{Sight} I haven't watched it yet, but I was pretty excited to see that Hey Arnold! was on Netflix. I used to watch that show all the time when I was little. Everyday that I would get home from school it was on. I was always jealous of Arnold's room, especially that window that was essentially the roof. There was this one episode when he wakes up and it's snowing, and all he has to do is look up and see a beautiful layer of white everywhere.

{Scent} I haven't lit incense in a long time, before today. I'm getting back into my old routine of meditating everyday, and it was fitting to use it. I get mine from Whole Foods, and it's the sweetest smell of Mocha.

{Sound} Avalanche City's "Love Love Love". The song is so sweet, and the video is really cute. I love music that makes you feel good.

{Taste} TAZO Zen Green Tea is so wonderful. I go through a "tea mood" every once in a while. I'm still a coffee lover, but for now it's tea time.

{Touch} My mother-in-law gave me a book for Christmas on Ancient Secrets of Facial Rejuvenation. I hadn't given it a try until last night. I've been getting over being sick, and I wanted to feel more fresh, so for the first time I read this book. Being a massage therapist I learned about Acupressure in class, but I hadn't practiced it on the face and neck. I gained more knowledge on meridians, and a holistic approach to beauty. I woke up this morning feeling better overall, and I think I'm going to start practicing this on a daily basis.
